‘M’ by Peter Diamond

Wed, Jan 23, 19 / James BDP

We're delighted to release a brand new poster for Fritz Lang's 1931 crime-thriller ‘M’.

Peter does a much better job at talking about both ‘M’ and the poster so we'll just hand the mic to him.

‘M’ poses an open question: was Hans Beckert a calculating monster, or a man at the mercy of illness?

Beckert inhabits M early on as a huge, deadly shadow over Berlin, and later as a small, sick man pleading for mercy before a mob. The film gives equal weight and depth to both of these Beckerts. Most significantly, the question of which one is the ‘real’ Beckert is left open at the end of the film, and any conclusive answer to that question can only be the viewer’s.

That’s what this poster is about; each person will have to choose in which direction to hang it, to decide which Beckert dominates. And even then, the other Beckert will always be there Underneath.” - Peter Diamond

M’ is available in two versions, a regular sold by Mondo for US customers and our shop for everyone else, and a variant sold exclusively through our shop. These go on sale this Thursday 24 January at a random time from Mondo and at 5pm UK time from our website.
